Gaming peripheral developer Wallhack has released the M-001, a wireless gaming mouse that distinguishes itself through an all-magnesium chassis, a spring-loaded hot-swappable battery mechanism, and a multi-functional tactile control dongle. Weighing 53.6 grams, the device prioritizes structural rigidity and physical feedback alongside high-performance technical specifications, including an 8,000 Hz polling rate and up to 25,600 DPI sensitivity. However, the design includes distinct trade-offs, such as the total omission of an onboard USB-C port and reliance on an established sensor platform rather than ultra-new hardware.
The construction of the M-001 relies on a solid upper magnesium shell rather than the traditional plastic enclosures or honeycombed cutouts common in lightweight gaming mice. Measuring 120 millimeters in length, 63.5 millimeters in width, and 39 millimeters in height, the mouse features an angled profile with a lowered front section and a pronounced rear hump that creates a forward-slanted palm position during use. On the underside, Wallhack omitted a traditional bottom cover, employing a thin perimeter frame around six mouse feet. The internal printed circuit board (PCB) functions as a primary structural member providing rigid support to the entire frame, a method adapted from structural automotive engineering.
Central to the design is the hot-swappable battery system, which uses a spring-loaded ejector mechanism similar to an SD card slot. Users press the battery into place until it clicks to lock, and press again to eject it for replacement. Because fresh batteries can be charged continuously at the desktop receiver while another is in use, Wallhack removed the USB-C port from the mouse body entirely. As a result, the M-001 operates exclusively as a 2.4GHz wireless peripheral with no direct cable connection or onboard charging capability, ensuring continuous wireless operation as long as spare batteries remain available.
The accompanying desk dongle is constructed as a medium-sized gunmetal wedge matching the finish of the mouse. Designed to double as a control station and battery charger, the unit incorporates two camera-style ratcheting dials on its front panel. One dial permits real-time DPI adjustments ranging from 400 to 25,600, while the second controls polling rates from 125 Hz up to 8,000 Hz. Accompanying LED indicators signal active parameter changes, allowing users to alter operational settings on the fly without navigating software menus during gameplay or system navigation.
Internally, the M-001 is built around a Pixart PAW3950 optical sensor, paired with Omron Optical switches for the main left and right buttons. The side buttons utilize low-profile Omron blue-dot mechanical switches, while the elevated scroll wheel employs a mechanical encoder. For software customization, the device connects to Wallhack Terminal, a web browser client that uses a black-and-white, text-based interface reminiscent of a classic command prompt. The software allows fine adjustments to lift-off distance in millimeter increments, mouse acceleration, rotation, and sensor scanning speeds.
Evaluating the overall design, peripheral reviewer Henri Robbins noted that while the PAW3950 sensor originates from earlier flagships such as the 2022 Razer Viper V2 Pro and the device carries a premium price point, the combination of physical control dials, rigid metal ergonomics, and effortless battery swapping provides a uniquely engaging tactile experience. Although competitive pros seeking the absolute lowest weight or newest sensor generation may find alternatives, the M-001 succeeds in delivering practical utility, robust construction, and high physical responsiveness for everyday gaming and productivity.
