El Salvador plans to send more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti to search for four missing Salvadoran aviation technicians and combat armed gangs, coinciding with Haiti's decision to postpone its presidential and parliamentary elections. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in El Salvador announced the deployment, while Haiti's electoral authorities moved the first round of voting from December 13 to July 18, 2027.

The four Salvadorans disappeared on October 18 following an armed ambush on their vehicle in Croix-des-Bouquets, east of Port-au-Prince. Following the incident, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele spoke by telephone with Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime to coordinate rescue efforts and security operations, addressing ongoing security challenges that have repeatedly delayed democratic elections in Haiti.
