Police in Trinidad and Tobago are searching for a masked gunman who fatally shot a business owner and a customer inside a Couva beauty parlour on Tuesday morning.

The shooting took place at around 9:20 a.m. on October 28 inside SOHO Beauty Haven, situated on the first floor of Veneris Plaza at the corner of Southern Main Road and Charlotte Street in Couva. The victims were identified as 55-year-old spa proprietor Kavita Deosaran, a resident of Midway Park, Freeport, and 64-year-old client Cheryl Dixon, of La Croix Street, Couva.

According to accounts provided to investigators, the assailant walked into the establishment and questioned Dixon regarding the vehicle she was operating before discharging two rounds at her, inflicting fatal injuries. The gunman then proceeded into another room where he confronted Deosaran. Witnesses recounted that Deosaran attempted to flee the confrontation but was pursued and shot. Two further gunshots were heard before the attacker escaped.

The suspect is described as slim-built, dark-complexioned, masked, and dressed in blue coveralls. Closed-circuit television recordings captured the assailant running down the plaza stairs and mounting a waiting motorcycle operated by an accomplice before speeding away in an undetermined direction.

At the time of the gunfire, several salon staff members, including a pregnant worker, along with other patrons, were inside the premises. No other occupants sustained physical injuries. Veneris Plaza accommodates approximately ten commercial tenants, including a school catering to children with special needs.

Crime scene technicians processing the spa recovered 14 spent ammunition shells and five bullet projectiles. Detectives attached to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service have made no arrests to date and continue to appeal for information as they work to trace the perpetrator and establish a motive for the attack.
