Veteran journalist Kayon Raynor has been appointed Group Editor-in-Chief of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, effective October 20, 2026. The appointment places him in editorial leadership of The Gleaner and the newsrooms of Television Jamaica (TVJ) and Radio Jamaica 94 FM, with oversight of news operations across print, television, radio and digital platforms.
Raynor, who brings nearly three decades of journalism experience across print, broadcast and international media, most recently served as the Group's Head of Sports and has contributed to international news agency Reuters. Executive Chairman Joseph M. Matalon said the appointment is part of efforts to improve efficiency and strengthen coordination across news operations while preserving the distinct identities and editorial independence of the Group's media brands. "Kayon brings extensive experience, sound editorial judgement and a strong commitment to journalism," Matalon said. Raynor said his priority will be strengthening the Group's journalism through a digital-first approach while maintaining credible, relevant and engaging coverage. Over the next month, editorial teams will continue to operate largely as they do currently while The Gleaner's editor-in-chief and the deputy general manager for News, Sports and Current Affairs (Broadcast) work with Raynor to facilitate his transition.
