The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) Panthers and Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Shockwaves both secured victories during the 2026 Bahamas Government Departmental Basketball Association (BGDBA) best-of-five semifinals at A.F. Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Police Crimestoppers drew blood first in game one of their series against the Panthers, but the latter bounced back with an 82-67 victory to level the series at one game apiece. The Shockwaves opened their series against the BGDBA defending champions, Nassau Flight Services (NFS) Ballers, with a 77-66 win. The team has now established an early 1-0 advantage in that series. In the Shockwaves' victory, the BPL team got some big offensive performances from starters Livingston Munnings, Qyemah Gibson and Robert Missick. The trio all scored in double digits, with Munnings leading the way with a game-high 26 points and adding 13 rebounds and three blocks. On the downside, he recorded a whopping 14 turnovers. Gibson was productive as well, turning in 23 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Missick ended the night with a double-double, posting 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds while shooting 80 percent from the field. The Ballers got off to a slow start. The Shockwaves went on a 10-0 scoring run to start the game, before Chico Francis finally got the Ballers on the scoreboard with a tip-in at the 5:43 mark of the opening quarter. While it ended a scoreless drought, the basket did not quell the Shockwaves' momentum. Munnings canned a three-pointer to push the lead to 17 (19-2), and the team eventually closed out the first quarter on top, 24-8.The Ballers' Kemsy Sylvestre tried to generate some offense for NFS in the second period. He hit a basket to trim the deficit to 12 (36-24) with 3:07 remaining in the first half. The Shockwaves led, 39-26, at the intermission. The Ballers made it a game in the third quarter, outscoring the Shockwaves by nine points (21-12). In the third period, Sylvestre cleaned up a missed shot, which was followed by a three-pointer from the Ballers' Trevante McPhee. That sequence trimmed the gap to just six (48-42). Gibson was fouled in the final minute of the third quarter and sank two free throws to help BPL close out the period with a narrow lead. The Ballers continued to chip away at the lead, coming within two points on multiple occasions in the final quarter of play. However, the Shockwaves' Munnings knocked down a turnaround jumper to extend their margin to 10 (68-58). At that point, the gap was too wide for the Ballers to recover. Sylvestre paced the Ballers with a team-high 26 points and added 15 rebounds and three blocks. Abel Joseph contributed 14 points, six steals and five rebounds for the Ballers. He shot 6-for-25 in the loss.In the Panthers' win, Jeremy Neely scored some timely buckets for the team and ended the game with a game-high 26 points, while adding five rebounds and two assists. Clifton Barr converted a jumper to put the Panthers ahead by 12 (69-57), and the Crimestoppers never got close enough again.
