When Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander lifted Star Sabga’s Preventive Detention Order on September 27, the 69-year-old cheese maker broke down in tears, a mix of relief and disbelief that underscored the human cost of her months-long house arrest. Confinement at Regents Towers in Westmoorings began on July 23, forcing Sabga to keep her doors unlocked around the clock for police checks.
Attorney Faris Al-Rawi announced the revocation during a news conference at Altus Court in Port of Spain, noting that Trinidad and Tobago Police Service officers delivered the official notice at 10:15 a.m. Al-Rawi stated that Sabga is officially back to private life, adjusting to the sudden end of her restrictions while expressing regret over past remarks about the Prime Minister.
