Jamaica's men's 4x400m relay team has successfully qualified for the final at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland. The quartet, comprising Reheem Hayles, Tyrice Taylor, Kimar Farquharson, and Demar Francis, secured their spot by finishing third in their first-round heat on Sunday morning at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena.
The team clocked a time of 3:05.68, which was swift enough to advance to the medal round. Belgium claimed victory in the heat with a time of 3:05.25, while Hungary secured second place, setting a national record of 3:05.67, just narrowly edging out the Jamaican squad.
This advancement adds to Jamaica's presence on the final day of competition, as the nation continues to build on its medal count. Earlier in the championships, Raymond Richards earned a bronze medal in the men's high jump, clearing 2.26m. This marks Richards' second consecutive bronze in the event, having also secured one at last year's World Indoors.
Jamaica's medal tally currently stands at three, including two silver medals won on Friday. The nation was poised to add more, with athletes like Carey McLeod and Tajay Gayle competing in the men's long jump, and Nia Robinson making her debut in the women's long jump. However, the mixed 4x400m relay team was disqualified after initially finishing third, and Brianna Lyston and Demario Prince both placed fourth in their respective 60m finals.
The men's 4x400m relay team's qualification ensures Jamaica will have another opportunity to contend for a medal as the championships conclude.
