Last Friday, the Jamaica Defence Force and Kingston Wharves kicked off their second consecutive intensive cricket camp, welcoming 100 young players to the pitches of Manley Horne Park in St Elizabeth.
The camp, aimed at honing the skills of budding cricketers, saw the JDF pitch a series of tents to house the participants during their stay in the parish, providing a temporary base for training and accommodation.
This year’s program expands on last year’s 60‑player cohort, adding 40 more youngsters and moving the venue from Up Park Camp in Kingston to the more expansive grounds of Manley Horne Park in Junction.
Co‑organisers say the intensive schedule will include daily drills, coaching sessions from former professionals, and inter‑team matches designed to foster teamwork and competitive spirit.
Officials from the Jamaica Defence Force highlighted the partnership’s role in promoting sportsmanship and community engagement, while Kingston Wharves emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent for the national cricket pipeline.
