In a bid to curb vehicle-related fraud, Jamaican law enforcement is advising buyers and sellers to meet at police stations or other secure locations to finalise motor vehicle sales. Speaking on the Police Civilian Oversight Authority Citizen’s Corner Podcast, Detective Sergeant Dave Francis of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Stolen Motor Vehicle Unit highlighted the benefits of utilizing safe and neutral venues for these transactions.

Sergeant Francis explained that conducting a sale at a police station allows prospective buyers to directly request a check for signs of tampering or altered identifying information. While many citizens prefer the security of a police facility, he noted that any area deemed secure by both parties—such as a plaza or shopping mall—is also acceptable for carrying out the business safely.
