Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone arena, unveiling the long-anticipated iPhone Duo at a launch event on September 9, 2026. Presented by newly appointed CEO John Ternus at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, the device establishes a new high-water mark for smartphone pricing at a starting cost of US$1,999.
Crafted from titanium and offered in "star white" and "night sky" finishes, the iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external screen. The hardware supports Apple Pencil input and runs split-screen applications like Netflix, Zoom, and Slack. Positioned slightly above Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8, the Duo aims to capture significant share in a foldable market currently representing under five percent of global smartphone sales.
Apple confirmed that pre-orders will open on October 16, followed by a wide release across 70 countries on October 23, 2026. Alongside the traditional purchase structure, the tech giant introduced a monthly leasing program named Apple Upgrade, allowing customers to spread payments across one or two years.
